16 Jan – There's no doubt that Thailand has a reign over the horror movie category, but not so much when it comes to zombie movies. Director MR Chalermchatri "Adam" Yukol, the youngest son of veteran filmmaker MC Chatrichalerm "Than Mui" Yukol, is about to change that, The Nation Thailand reports. Adam's upcoming zombie movie will be unleashed onto the big screens come 19 February 2015, and the makers of the film are saying its Thailand's first official zombie specific movie. "Phee Ha Ayothaya" is the pretty straightforward title of the movie. It features a phee ha, the ghost of someone who has died in a disease epidemic, and Ayothaya is another way of spelling Ayutthaya, the period in which this movie is set in.
The movie tells of villagers mysteriously dying off but later coming back to life, only to start turning the living into their meals. They cannot be fight off even with the protection and blessings from monks and the living must now find a way to save themselves from the undead. As Adam revealed to movie blogger Jediyuth, it is no coincidence if the movie reminds moviegoers of George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" and "Dawn of the Dead", as Adam is a big fan of Romero and deliberately uses the same tongue-in-cheek approach. However, Adam's won't be the only phee ha movie to hit the cinemas, later this year there will also be "Phee Ha Rattanakosin"; a mock trailer from third-year film students studying at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Lat Krabang that has been turned into a feature film.
