A still from 1986's "The Transformers: The Movie".

19 Sep – It was previously reported that the "Transformers" franchise will be expanding with more sequels and spinoffs.

It is so far confirmed that the next sequel will, of course, be "Transformers 5". The latest update, according to Deadline, is an animated feature film spinoff is also in the making.

Fans or critics who have been hoping to see a movie that focuses more on the robots rather than the humans might just get to see that happen as the animated film will reportedly be an origin story that will focus on the Autobots and Decepticons in their home planet, Cybertron.

"Ant-Man" writers, Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, are penning the script. This will be the second animated feature film featuring the alien robots, with 1986's "The Transformers: The Movie" being the first.

Mark Wahlberg as seen in last year's "Transformers: Age of Extinction".

As for the upcoming live-action sequel, Akiva Goldsmen has been overseeing the "Transformers" writing room to come up with the script, which will star Mark Wahlberg, reprising his role as Cade Yeager.

However, Michael Bay is still in two minds about helming "Transformers 5". His latest tweet says "Re: directing TF5. No, it's not official. I have not committed to any idea as of yet. Just met with Steven and we are discussing."

No release date is set for the animated "Transformers", though it is expected to be released after "Transformers 5", which is expected to begin filming by next June and open in cinemas sometime in 2017.
