Afdlin Shauki wants Hugh Jackman to star in his movie

After "Logan", will Hugh Jackman join Afdlin Shauki's project?

30 Dec – Acclaimed Malaysian actor and director, Afdlin Shauki is now on the lookout for possible investors for his big budget production, "Sandakan Tears".

The epic is set to be internationally released and will look to test the never-before-tested foreign waters.

Speaking to mStar, Afdlin said, "I strongly believe that the movie has a huge potential in the international market and that it will serve its purpose of introducing our filmmaking talents to the rest of the world."

"But to be honest, I am really nervous as it's been a long time since I have directed a film but I should not make it as an excuse as I see myself having huge responsibilities in making this successful," added Afdlin.

The "Papadom" actor expressed that, he is looking to work together with Award winning director, Roger Christian for the film while ambitiously planning to rope in "Wolverine" star Hugh Jackman for the lead role.

The film is expected to cost around RM67.2 million to make and will be shot around the regions of Sabah and Australia.

"Now, I am preparing the second draft of the script which will be sent to the Hollywood production studio for review before we proceed with our next step," added the 45 year-old-director.

Not stopping there, Afdlin is also looking for investors from Australia in order to properly finance the epic.

"Sandakan Tears" tells the story of fallen soldiers from Britain and Australia who were forced by the Japanese soldiers to walk all the way from Sandakan to Ranau which is approximately 140 kilometres apart.
