Find out who is replacing Angelina Jolie in "Tomb Raider"

"Tomb Raider" is adapted from a game by the same name.

29 Apr – Hollywood is getting a new Lara Croft, the game-to-movie character formerly popularised by actress-turned-director Angelina Jolie.

Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander has won the coveted leading role in the "Tomb Raider" reboot, according to Variety, trumping other actresses previously eyed for the role, including "Star Wars: The Force Awakens'" Daisy Ridley.

It was reported that the 27-year-old Swedish actress has always been the first choice to play the English archaeologist-adventurer.

Vikander begun her acting career in 2006 and has won accolades numerous times since, but it was in 2015 that her fame sky-rocketed after starring in movies such as "Ex Machina", "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and "The Danish Girl", the last of which won her Best Supporting Actress at the 88th Academy Awards.

Alicia Vikander won an Oscar for her role in 2015's "The Danish Girl".

With Vikander playing the character, it is hoped that the reboot will be as successful as the original Angelina Jolie-starring 2001 movie, "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" and the 2003 sequel "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life".

The reboot is set to be directed by Roar Uthaug ("The Wave"). Other details have yet to be confirmed at the moment.

Vikander will be seen next in "Jason Bourne", which sees the return of Matt Damon as the titular spy.
