"Minions", one of the movies available for download on Netflix.

1 Dec – It's been a long time coming, and Netflix has finally rolled out its much-anticipated download function.

The U.S.-based provider of on-demand Internet streaming media now gives its subscribers the option to download shows and movies to be watched later without internet connection.

"Many of your favorite streaming series and movies are already available for download, with more on the way, so there is plenty of content available for those times when you are offline," Eddy Wu, Director of Product Innovation, stated on Netflix's blog.

Netflix subscribers have been flooding social media with their joy over the new function. No doubt, it is a function that will be even more highly appreciated this side of the world where internet stability is often a cause of concern.

With the option to download, wary users can now say goodbye to long loading time and choppy streaming.
