Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart are 2016 MTV Movie Awards hosts

Johnson and Hart work together for "Central Intelligence" – and MTV Movie Awards!

22 Feb – Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kevin Hart will be hosting the 25th MTV Movie Awards, as reported by MTV, which is set to take place this 10 April.

This year's awards show will be a lot more interactive as it will be pre-taped live-style across the Warner Bros. backlot before the broadcast. Part of the show will be taking place outdoors across many locations unlike the usual theatrical concept.

Fans will also be getting a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be a part of the production crew of the "2016 MTV Movie Awards" promo campaign, with Dwayne and Kevin, via multiple simultaneous livestreams. These give fans the opportunity to direct the hosts via comments and tweets using #movieawards.

Once complete, MTV will utilise the footage for promos airing across linear, digital and social platforms, crediting the fans that have had a hand in creating the content.

"We want to do a big, brave thing to celebrate movies," the show's exec producer Casey Patterson says of filming across the backlot. "We love Kevin and Dwayne for doing big, risky, bold things. Most award shows play it safe. They're the right guys to take big swings."

Patterson chose the duo because he thinks they make perfect hosts as they constantly engage with their fans, which is what MTV is looking for.

"We could not be in better hands than with these two guys because they really represent what it means to be a movie star right now. They talk directly to their fans all the time. They are always in a conversation with their fans."

Johnson, meanwhile, said, "It's an honor to be hosting the 'MTV Movie Awards' with a guy who's not only one of the funniest guys on the planet, but who's often mistaken as my twin, Kevin Hart. We live for our fans and promise to make this an epic, historic unforgettable night for them."

Hart commented, "I love hosting - it's my thing. Dwayne and I are the perfect team for the epic 25th anniversary show. It's going to go down."

The beautiful thing about the MTV Awards is that they always feature diversity. "We are just organically diverse," Patterson says. "The beautiful thing about the MTV Movie Awards is that we're not based on an academy or any outside organization. We really just represent the fans and the films that they love to see and it's just organically diverse - it just is."

Apart from their hosting gig, Johnson and Hart will also be appearing together in their upcoming comedy, "Central Intelligence", slated to hit theatres this June.
