7 Jun – There's finally an actor attached to lead the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim" and it is none other than "Star Wars" breakout star, John Boyega. The 24-year-old British actor is set to play the son of Marshall Stacker Pentecost, the character played by Idris Elba in the first movie, Deadline has confirmed. "I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The "Pacific Rim" universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world," said director Guillermo del Toro, who helmed the first movie. "Pacific Rim" made USD411 million worldwide against it USD190 million budget, enough to warrant a sequel. However, when the release date kept getting postponed and del Toro pulled out as director, fans started speculating that the sequel may never happen. Though del Toro himself, who is now attached as producer, shot down the rumours. The follow-up was confirmed to still be in the works when back in February it was announced that Marvel's "Daredevil" showrunner Steven S. DeKnight will be directing. "Pacific Rim 2" currently has no release date, but production on the movie is set to begin in the fourth quarter of this year. Boyega is best known by global audiences as Finn in last year's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens". He made his acting debut in 2011 British sci-fi horror comedy, "Attack on the Block" and acted in several other movies before hitting Hollywood. He will be seen soon in yet another sci-fi movie, "The Circle", alongside Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.
