Revised cinema rating for "Kabali"

"Kabali" is no longer rated 18 in Malaysia.

20 Jul – The Film Censorship Board of Malaysia (LPF) has recanted its previous 18 rating for Rajinikanth-starrer, "Kabali".

As of yesterday, the movie was rated 18 by LPF. However, a recent update on LPF's website today shows that the movie's rating has been revised to P13.

This means the locally-filmed Tamil movie can now be enjoyed by a wider audience, as the new rating allows even moviegoers under the age of 18 (though anyone under the age of 13 will still need adult supervision) to watch the movie in local cinemas.

A representative of Malik Streams Corporation, the movie's distributor in Malaysia, has confirmed the new rating as well as the release date of the movie for this Friday, 22 July.

"Kabali" receives a P13 rating from LPF on 20 July 2016.

Previously, the movie may have received a different rating due to its abundance of action scenes, which may carry some elements of violence deemed suitable only for the older audiences.

However, even though "Kabali" may now be available to a higher number of audiences, which promises higher box office returns, it remains to be seen whether that will be the case as there are reports circulating that it is supposedly already available online.

The Time of India reported that the action movie has been leaked online three days prior to its official release this Friday and the whole movie can be downloaded from several links on the 'dark web'.

The Tamil version of "Kabali" is scheduled for worldwide release this 22 July, while the Bahasa Malaysia dubbed version is expected to be released in Malaysia this 29 July.
