1 Sep - Back for its 13th year now, the Japanese Film Festival (JFF 2016) in Malaysia will welcome Japanese screen legend, Kirin Kiki, who will be attending the special closed-door preview of her award-winning movie, "An" which will be screened for invited guests. "An" was selected to open at the Un Certain Regard section at 2015 Cannes Film Festival and was also part of the official selection of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. Not only that, the 73-year-old actress had also won herself the Best Actress award at the 9th Asia Pacific Screen Awards and at the 40th Hochi Film Awards for the movie. The three-time Japan Academy Prize-winning actress will be at GSC Mid Valley at the private opening ceremony of JFF 2016 on Wednesday, 7 September 2016, from 10.30am to 1.30pm.
Apart from "An", JFF 2016 also presents 12 other amazing cinematic offerings that include great blockbusters, fun comedies, award-winning pieces and classic treats. They are; "After the Storm" (also starring Kirin Kiki), "Bakuman", "The Boy and the Beast", "Creepy", "Chihayafuru Part 1 and 2", "Desperate Sunflowers", "Flying Colors", "The Magnificent Nine", "The Mohican Comes Home", "My Love Story", and "What a Wonderful Family". The JFF 2016 movies will be screened at six selected GSC cinemas across Malaysia. From 8 to 14 September, the festival will take place in the Klang Valley at GSC Mid Valley, GSC Pavilion KL, GSC 1 Utama and GSC NU Sentral. It will then move to GSC Gurney Plaza in Penang from 15 to 18 September. JFF 2016 will then make its way to East Malaysia from 22 to 25 September at GSC CityONE Megamall in Kuching, and from 29 September to 2 October at GSC Suria Sabah in Kota Kinabalu.
