24 Feb – Looks like the box office success of "Deadpool" has opened doors to more movies opting for the R-rating. According to FilmRatings.com, MPAA has already given Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman" an R-rating, though younger fans fret not, this is only for the Blu-ray release. The movie will still be released in theatre with a PG-13 rating. The R-rated version of the movie, rated so for its violent sequences, will be released on Blu-ray titled "Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition". DC's first release of the year will see Gotham's caped crusader take on Metropolis' God-like saviour while the world struggles to decide what sort of hero it really needs. A new threat interrupts the fight leaving mankind in greater danger than it has ever had.
Whether for the content or just to garner box office collection, Stephen King's "IT", the upcoming "Wolverine" and the live adaptation of "Death Note" will also be rated-R. Since Andy Muscietti replaced Cary Fukunaga to direct Stephen King's "IT", the script for the horror movie is being rewritten by Gary Doberman, with New Line still planning to split the movie into two as the classic tale by King takes place in two time periods. Producer Roy Lee mentioned, "It will hopefully be shooting later this year, we just got the California tax credit... Gary Doberman wrote the most recent draft working with Andy Muscetti, so it's being envisioned as two movies." He added, "We're taking it and making the movie from the point of view of the kids, and then making another movie from the point of view of the adults." Lee went on to say "IT" will be R-rated, and its last hurdle is making sure the script matches the budget. "We are very close to turning in the final draft of the script," he said. "It's mainly working on it for budgeting purposes to make it fit within the budget that we have."
The upcoming live-action adaption of Japan's famous "Death Note" will also be R-rated as Collider confirmed after catching up with Lee at DICE 2016. "It's definitely for adults. It is zero chance it will be below an R-rating. [The tone of the film] will be one of the first manga adaptations that feel very grounded but still has fantastical elements." The story centers around a bright Japanese high school student who randomly discovers a notebook that lets him kill anyone just by writing their name in it. The cast includes Nat Wolff and Margaret Qualley in lead roles with Adam Wingard in charge of directing the film. Lee also added saying he is confident the production of the manga adaptation will begin this year. Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox had previously teased that "Wolverine 3" might also have an R-rating as it might be based on the 'Old Man Logan' story and most fans have already grown past the age of the R-rating admittance.
