Richard Harris' son to play young Dumbledore?

Will Jared Harris (left) the son of late actor Richard Harris (right)
play young Dumbledore in "Fantastic Beasts"?

29 Nov –Former Dumbledore actor Richard Harris' son, actor Jared Harris is rumoured to play the role of young Dumbledore in the upcoming "Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them" movies.

According to the Evening Standard, Harris was asked on his views on the fan speculation to which he replied, "They're obviously thinking about it. I haven't heard anything and I don't expect to. It's not up to me. Having seen [fan campaigns] before I find that [film bosses] don't like to have their hands forced. These campaigns almost always go in a different direction."

It is well-known that Jared's father, Richard, had played the old yet powerful wizard Dumbledore in the first two "Harry Potter" movies before his untimely death.

From the third movie onwards, the role of Dumbledore was played by actor Michael Gambon.

Best known for his role in TV's "Mad Men", Jared had done many films with Warner Bros. such as "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.".

It is also notable that he is in the right age range to helm the character and all this points for a new but true to the "Harry Potter" books Dumbledore.

As actor Johnny Depp had been revealed to play dark wizard Grindewald - the adversary of young Dumbledore - it's only a matter of time before a 40-year-old Dumbledore is introduced and casting should already be in the early stages.

The fifth and final "Fantastic Beasts" movie is expected to feature the epic showdown between Grindelwald and Dumbledore.

The first "Fantastic Beasts" movie starring Eddie Redmayne, Dan Fogel, Colin Farrell, Johnny Depp, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol and Ezra Miller had thus far grossed USD474million at the worldwide box office since its release on 16 November 2016.
