14 nominations for "La La Land" at the Oscars

"La La Land" may just be dancing its way to victory at the Oscars.

25 Jan – Yesterday we've taken a look at the nominees for the worst of the worst in Hollywood, today we switch gears and sing praises of the crème de la crème.

And sing we will, for the leading nominee for this year is none other than Golden Globes-winning musical film, "La La Land".

The Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone-starrer has garnered a total of 14 nominations, tying the record with 1950's "All About Eve" and James Cameron's 1997 "Titanic".

Some of the awards it will be competing for are Best Picture, Best Actor for Ryan Gosling, Best Actress for Emma Stone, and Best Screenplay. Its music too gets a nod in the Best Original Score and Best Original Song categories.

There are a total of 24 categories at this year's Oscars. Though none of the Southeast Asian submissions made it to the final list, the Best Foreign Language Film category this year does see the inclusion of Australia's "Tanna", giving the country its first foreign language nomination.

While last year the trending phrase for the Oscars was "Oscars so white", this year the phrase seems to have been retired since there is decidedly more diversity in the nomination list.
