9 May – The "Hellboy" film franchise is getting the reboot treatment and this time, writer and director Guillermo del Toro will not be involved. For the reboot, comic book artist Mike Mignola announced on his Facebook that the film will be R-rated and directed by Neil Marshall. "Stranger Things" actor David Harbour will star as the titular character. The previous two "Hellboy" movies starred Ron Pearlman as the cigar-chomping red demon with Del Toro at the helm. Del Toro was said to have a theatrical plan for the third instalment, but complications have kept the project on hold for years until it was later called off back in February. While a lot of fans are disappointed to not be getting the "Hellboy 3" they've been waiting years for, a lot of them are hopeful about the reboot too. If it is going to be rated R, then Marshall, who had previously directed horror film "The Descent" as well as some episodes of gory series like "Hannibal" and "Game of Thrones", is a pretty good fit. So is Harbour as the lead. The actor got his big break when he starred in Netflix's "Stranger Things" as Chief Jim Hopper. The first "Hellboy" was released in 2004 by Sony while the sequel, "Hellboy II: The Golden Army", was released in 2008 and distributed by Universal. The critically acclaimed "Hellboy" franchise focuses on the eponymous demon-turned-superhero who works to protect the world from paranormal threats with the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense. Plans for the reboot are still in negotiations. A release date is yet to be announced.
