"Captain America" actor to star in "The Raid" remake

The original "The Raid" was an Indonesian production starring Iko Uwais.

16 Feb – The Hollywood take on Indonesian action movie "The Raid" is moving ahead with a new director and a new lead.

Frank Grillo, best known for acting in the "Captain America" and "The Purge" franchises, will be starring in the remake.

The good news was revealed by the new director himself, Joe Carnahan, on social media.

His post also revealed that Welsh director Gareth Evans, who helmed both 2011's "The Raid" and its 2014 sequel "The Raid 2: Berandal", will be on board as producer.

To calm fans who are seeing red over news of the remake, Carnahan assured that he will not disappoint them, saying that it's "not a remake" but "a reimagining of the same scenario".

"You can't remake "The Raid", guys. It's a fantastic film. So, ask yourselves why would we be doing it, unless we had something really special," he added.

This will be the second time for Carnahan to work with Grillo, whom he previously directed in 2011's "The Grey". Grillo is best known for playing Brock Rumlow in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Captain America: Civil War", and Sergeant Leo Barnes in "The Purge" film series.

When it was first announced in 2014, "The Raid" remake was originally set to be directed by "The Expendables 3" helmer, Patrick Hughes. Taylor Kitsch ("Battleship, John Carter, Lone Survivor") was attached to star.
