21 Jun – The most surprising news to come out of the acting world today has got to be Daniel Day-Lewis' announcement of his sudden retirement. "Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor," stated Day-Lewis' spokeswoman, Leslee Dart, as quoted by Variety. The actor provided no reason for his retirement, his spokeswoman merely stating it was "a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject." The 60-year-old is one of the most prolific stars in Hollywood, having been active in both film and theatre for the past four decades. He holds the distinction of being the only actor to have won the Academy Award for Best Actor three times, which he earned through his movies "Lincoln" (2012), "There Will Be Blood" (2007) and "My Left Foot" (1989). The son of poet Cecil Day-Lewis and English actress Jill Balcon started his career in film at the age of 14, when he appeared in an uncredited role in 1971's "Sunday Bloody Sunday". He has since gone on to garner numerous prestigious nominations and accolades during his long career. Day-Lewis, who has been away from the silver screen for the half decade, has only recently wrapped up filming for Paul Thomas Anderson-helmed "Phantom Thread", which is planned for release in North America this Christmas. The 2017 movie marks his final film performance.
