17 Mar – Originally planned to be released in cinemas nationwide yesterday, "Beauty and the Beast" finds itself still stuck in limbo as Walt Disney Co. remains adamant in its decision to keep the movie free from any cuts. Latest update brings word that Disney Malaysia, however, has submitted an appeal to overturn the Malaysian Censorship Board's (LPF) decision to cut the movies "gay moments". Approximately 4 minutes and 30 seconds were requested by LPF to be cut from the movie for scenes that concern Josh Gad's character Le Fou, whose offensive gay moments include him dancing with another man and apparently spotting a hickey on his stomach. With homosexuality being illegal in Malaysia, many religious groups and concerned parents have called for the movie to be banned for fear that the movie might leave negative influences in young children's minds. Disney Malaysia could not be reached for updates on the appeal at the time of writing. The release date for the movie in Malaysia is currently postponed from 16 March to 30 March. Malaysian authorities have until then to decide on whether the movie still needs to be cut or an exception will be made for it. Their decision will decide the fate of the movie, if the original ruling still holds, leading the studio to decisively pull the movie from the Malaysian market, Malaysians will never be guests to the live-action "Beauty and the Beast" in local cinemas.
