"Fault in Our Stars" helmer to pen new Stephen King adaptation

Josh Boone now has "The Talisman" to include in his multiple Stephen King adaptations.

12 Oct – After years of being on the back burner, "The Talisman" is finally getting its own big screen adaptation.

Josh Boone, director of "The Fault in Our Stars" and the upcoming "New Mutants", has been tapped to pen the movie adaptation of the Stephen King novel, according to Variety.

Though currently roped in as a writer, there is a possibility of him doubling as director for the project as well.

Published in 1984, the best-selling novel co-written by King and famed horror author Peter Straub was initially planned for a television series adaptation until its studio, Amblin Entertainment, switches its focus to the big screen.

"The Talisman" follows 12-year-old Jack Sawyer as he sets off to find a mystical talisman that could save his cancer-stricken mother. His quest then takes him to a parallel universe called The Territories, which ties with the universe of another Stephen King novel, "Dark Tower".

No stranger to King's work, Boone was previously tapped to write and direct an adaptation of "The Stand". However, that ambitious project was later put on hold, as the legendary writer then recruited Boone to pen the adaptation of "Revival", which is still under development.

The 38-year-old writer and director was also previously reported to helm another of King's novel, "Lisey's Story", although no update has been given regarding this project.

With "It" successfully grossing USD606 million worldwide, it's no surprise that Hollywood is rushing to get their hands on more of King's works.

While the silver screen this year has had "Dark Tower" and "It" gracing it, the television scene is also heating up with "Mr. Mercedes" moving forward for season 2 and "Castle Rock" currently undergoing filming.

No release date has been given for "The Talisman" but fans can anticipate seeing Boone's work when Fox's "X-Men" spinoff "New Mutants" opens in 2018; it currently has the North American release date of 13 April 2018.
