First look at new "Tomb Raider" Alicia Vikander!

Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft in an official "Tomb Raider" movie still.

28 Mar – Around 14 years after Angelina Jolie's last take on the role; MGM, GK Films and Warner Bros. will bring a new Lara Croft to the big screen that also comes with a new backstory.

According to the official plot synopsis as published by Vanity Fair, Lara Croft has refused to take on her the reins of her missing father's global business empire. Seven years after his disappearance, she travels to a tomb on an island somewhere off the coast of Japan, her father's last-known location. Suddenly, the stakes couldn't be higher for Lara. Against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind and, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit, she must push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown.

The director, Roar Uthaug states that the movie heavily references the world of the games.

The 2013 "Tomb Raider" video game, which focused on a younger Lara Croft on her big first adventure, was certainly a great source of inspiration.

Oscar winner, Alicia Vikander will be playing the titular heroine. Currently one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood, most notably for her roles in "Ex Machina" and "The Danish Girl", expectations are running high for the "Tomb Raider" reboot.

Can 28-year-old Alicia Vikander do justice to the role?

Social media reaction has so far been positive, with some fans noting the absence of the skimpy hot-pants and oversized bust the character had been known for before the game's 2013 reboot.

Joining Vikander is Dominic West from "The Wire" as Lara's father, Lord Richard Croft and "Into the Badlands" star Daniel Wu as Lu Ren, a ship captain who helps Lara find her father.

The main villain will be played by veteran actor, Walton Higgs who has portrayed memorable antagonistic television characters previously on "Sons of Anarchy" and "Justified".

After over a decade since the last "Tomb Raider" movie, people are now in anticipation of the "Tomb Raider" reboot which is expected to hit the screens in March 2018.
