"Haunted Hotel" scares up RMB11 million in China

"Haunted Hotel" features talents from all over Asia including Malaysian actor Teddy Chin (L)
and Thai actress Aom Sushar.

23 Oct – Malaysia's very own "Haunted Hotel" has successfully raked in RMB11 million (approximately RM7 million) after just one week of screening in China.

Such achievement comes as no surprise as the movie, which goes by "Haunted Road 2" in the Chinese market, has secured more than 40,000 screens at 8,000 cinemas in the country.

The horror movie isn't doing so shabbily in Malaysia either, as apparent by its collection following its release at local cinemas on 19 October.

"Malaysia is doing quite okay, we have surpassed RM600,000 in the first four days," said producer Aron Koh to Cinema Online when asked about the movie's collection at the local box office.

Helmed by 2015's "Seventh" writer and director Ryon Lee, the movie, which is filmed in the actual Amber Court, features talents from around Asia such as Thailand's Aom Sushar, China's Li Chuan, as well as our own Teddy Chin, Alvin Chong and Nadia Aqilah.

Aom Sushar, who is best known for her roles in many Thai remakes of Korean dramas including "Full House" and "Autumn in My Heart", also attracts attention for her Mandarin-speaking role of Chinese tourist Bai Ling despite her not being a native speaker of the language.

Now showing in nationwide cinemas, "Haunted Hotel" will soon make its way over to Hong Kong and Thailand.
