13 Sep – The family of "Fast and Furious" might be heading for divorce soon. From an Instagram rant of Dwayne Johnson firing off to an unnamed male cast of the franchise to Michelle Rodriguez threatening to leave the series, "Fast and Furious'" dirty laundry goes public once again when Tyrese Gibson vents his dissatisfaction to The Rock regarding a possible spinoff deal, as reported by MovieWeb. The public exchange started on Sunday when Johnson shared a photo of himself reviewing some documents, dropping hints for a new unnamed project. It wasn't long until fans speculated, along with Gibson, that the apparent deal was for the long-rumoured solo spinoff for Johnson's character Luke Hobbs.
"If you move forward with that #Hobbs Movie you will have purposely ignored the heart to heart moment we had in my sprinter," Gibson commented on the post. "I don't wanna hear from you again until you remember what we talked about. I'm on your timeline cause you're not responding to my text messages. #FastFamily is just that a family......We don't fly solo." Few days later, he went on to explain in a longer post that he was merely worried that the spinoff might affect the franchise and its upcoming release dates. "I want you to shoot it just not right now cause the #Fast9 release date has already been announced and we can't let our loyal fans #FastFamily or our loyal fast and furious FANS down on any level from pushing the date."
Both messages have since been deleted, but the actor did caption a follow-up photo of the two together with "I don't do email bruh. You got my cell same San Diego # hit me", suggesting that Johnson has yet to contact him. Rumours of a possible spinoff between Johnson's and co-star Jason Statham's characters have been circulating even before "Fate of the Furious", the eighth instalment of the franchise, opens in cinemas. A post-credit scene was reportedly made to help set up the spinoff but fans have yet to get a chance to watch it as it was axed from the final cut of the movie. As of now, Johnson has not publicly responded to any of Gibson's posts, adding to another frustrating development for a series whose main theme is the importance of family and togetherness. Despite no confirmation regarding the spinoff, fans can still catch all the cast together in "Fast and Furious 9", which drops in North American cinemas on 19 April 2019.
