10 Aug – British actor Riz Ahmed is currently in early talks to join the cast of Sony Pictures' "Venom". If everything goes well, the "Rogue One" actor will be playing alongside Tom Hardy, with the latter casted to play as Venom himself. Nothing has been revealed or confirmed regarding the role that Ahmed will be taking on, but sources are saying that he will be playing a popular character from the Marvel Comics and that could perhaps be Carnage. Other actors vying for the role are Matt Smith from "Doctor Who", Pedro Pascal from "Game of Thrones" and Matthias Schoenaerts from "Red Sparrow". What is known about the Spidey villain centered movie thus far is that it will be under the helming of Ruben Fleischer (director of "Zombieland") with the script written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. Set to begin production in this September, Sony has revealed that the movie will not be a part of the "Spider-Man" universe.
Venom has been one of "Spider-Man's" most popular characters ever since his first appearance in the Marvel Comics, making it Sony's top priority to launch its own spinoff movie. The character Venom, who is also known as Eddie Brock, had made his first big screen appearance in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 3", portrayed by Topher Grace. "Venom" is set to hit cinemas sometime in October 2018.
