6 Feb – From superheroes to supercars? Director James Mangold is now working on a movie focused on race cars, specifically the ones made by Ford and Ferrari. Yet to be titled, the project is currently referred to internally as the "Untitled Ford vs. Ferrari Project", according to Variety. As the name indicates, the project will be about the battle between Ford and Ferrari designers in creating the fastest race cars in the world. It will be based on a true story, which follows Carroll Shelby, American automotive designer, and Ken Miles, his British driver, who are tasked by Henry Ford II to build a new automobile that can defeat Ferrari at the 1966 Le Mans World Championship.
While no casting has been made, sources are saying that Mangold is looking at Matt Damon and Christian Bale to play Shelby and Miles, respectively. This could be Mangold's next big project, as since the release of "Logan" last year, the director has yet to film another movie. Mangold has a couple other projects in the pipeline, including another movie for 20th Century Fox called "The Force", which is based on Don Winslow's best-selling crime thriller, and possibly Disney's "Captain Nemo", which has had no updates since it was announced in 2016.
