Chen Kaige to head jury at 2018 IFFAM

Chen Kaige appointed as head jury for IFFAM.

27 Apr – Chinese filmmaker Chen Kaige has been appointed head jury for the main competition section of the upcoming International Film Festival and Awards Macao (IFFAM).

As reported on Xinhua, the news was confirmed by Mike Goodridge, the artistic director of IFFAM, who stated, "There are very few directors who can boast careers as rich and profound as Chen Kaige. With a 35-year filmography spanning "Yellow Earth" to last year's dizzyingly spectacular "Legend of the Demon Cat", he pioneered a new era in Chinese cinema in the 1980s and 1990s, yet continues to challenge himself today with the same energy, ambition and command of the medium across many different genres."

"This year I am honoured to invite Chen Kaige as our judge. It is indeed a privilege for our festival," he added.

Chen Kaige was awarded the 1993 Palme d'Or for "Farewell My Concubine". His other films include "The Emperor and the Assassin", and "Monk Comes Down the Mountain".

Indian director Shekhar Kapur was the head of jury in the 1st IFFAm, followed by French filmmaker Laurent Cantet in 2017.

The 3rd International Film Festival and Awards Macao will be run from 8 to 14 December.
