"Gintama" star enters Hollywood with "Godzilla vs Kong"

The "Gintama Part 2" star is making his Hollywood debut with "Godzilla vs. Kong".

12 Nov – Active in the Japanese film industry since the '90s, actor Shun Oguri is finally making his first foray into Hollywood with "Godzilla vs. Kong".

The 35-year-old has been tapped for an undisclosed role in the "Godzilla" movie, Deadline reported.

Fans would best know the Japanese actor as the lead of the live-action "Gintama" movies. He also starred in last year's "Let Me Eat Your Pancreas".

Not much is known about "Godzilla vs. Kong" so far except that its cast includes Zhang Ziyi, Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Eiza Gonzalez, Julian Dennison, Demian Bichir and Jessica Henwick.

Adam Wingard will be directing the movie, which serves as the fourth movie in the Legendary/Warner Bros. MonsterVerse, the ninth movie in the "King Kong" franchise and the 36th movie in the "Godzilla" franchise.

It is also the fourth "Godzilla" movie to be fully produced by Hollywood instead of the titular monster's homeland of Japan.

The shared cinematic universe of the two monsters, Godzilla and Kong, began with "Godzilla" in 2014, followed by "Kong: Skull Island" in 2017.

Up next is "Godzilla: King of the Monsters", scheduled for a May 2019 theatrical release.

"Godzilla vs. Kong" which just begun filming a couple of days ago in Hawaii, will stomp the big screen a year after that in May 2020.
