24 Jul – Despite her previous issue with the Golden Horse Awards, it was reported that Chinese actress Gong Li will be leading the jury for the upcoming 55th edition of the prestigious event. As reported on Taipei Times, the news was announced by the Golden Horse committee earlier this week, following an invitation from the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival executive committee chairman and filmmaker Ang Lee. According to the committee, Ang earlier sang praises for the "Red Sorghum" actress, saying that aside from being one of the most important figures in the Chinese film industry, Gong already has a lot of experience from being part of the judging committee in various international festivals. On the other hand, Gong has already accepted the invitation, saying, "Film is a mirror that reflects our lives and dreams. Giving my life and service to it is my lifelong duty and pursuit. Thank you director Ang Lee for the invitation and trust. I am willing to give my all for Chinese films." Gong made headlines a few years ago for accusing the awards of being unfair, after she lost the Best Actress accolade to Taiwanese actress Chen Shiang-chyi. (Photo Source: Empire)
