"Guardians of the Galaxy 3" might no longer open in 2020

The fate of the third "Guardians of the Galaxy" has been up in the air ever since the firing of director James Gunn.

27 Aug – Without a director, the fate of "Guardians of the Galaxy 3" hangs in the balance. Most recent update brought news that production on the movie has been put on hold.

The crew that was getting prepared to go into full preproduction mode this fall has been dismissed, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Originally slated to begin principal photography in winter, either January or February, production on the third "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie has been halted as Marvel and Disney reportedly 'regroup' to look for a new helmer for it.

While Disney has never set a release date for the third movie, former director James Gunn previously tweeted that it was "Coming in 2020".

The studio will have to hurry then if they're still looking at the same release date.

Chances are the upcoming movie will not be releasing in 2020 anymore, especially since so far there is still no concrete news of who will be taking over Gunn's directing role.

Gunn directed the first two movies in the franchise but was fired last month after his controversial old tweets resurfaced online. Fans petitioned for the director to be rehired but that hope was dashed when Disney chairman Alan Horn confirmed mid-August that Gunn will definitely not be returning.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" stars including Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana have shown their support for Gunn, with Bautista being the most vocal as he continues to show his disappointment on social media.
