23 Aug – Just when things seem to be taking off for "Bond 25", it hits a pretty major roadblock. The action movie currently has no director, again, as British filmmaker Danny Boyle has exited the project. An update on the official Twitter account of "James Bond" yesterday revealed: "Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig today announced that due to creative differences Danny Boyle has decided to no longer direct "Bond 25"." Boyle was taking over directing duty from Sam Mendes ("Skyfall", "Spectre") but issues with the script may have led to his departure. The Guardian reported that the producers were so keen on securing Boyle that they decided to let him direct based on the script he wrote with his long-term collaborator John Hodge, instead of the already completed screenplay from longtime "James Bond" writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. However, with Boyle's script being more topical than traditional for a Bond movie, it is speculated that Eon Productions is not willing to gamble with the franchise's future. Boyle's exit means that the movie will now most likely be based on Purvis and Wade's screenplay. The search is back on for a director for the movie. Nolan, who has been rumoured since last year to take on the next Bond movie, is one of the possible contenders at the moment. As for the titular spy, Daniel Craig is still attached to play him. In the meantime, Idris Elba finally settled his own Bond rumours. When asked by a "Good Morning Britain" reporter during his "Yardie" premiere on whether he will be the next Bond, the actor-director simply said, "No." "Bond 25" is originally slated for a 25 October 2019 release but with the current situation, it is possible that it could be delayed to 2020 instead.
