30 Nov – With his many experiences of starring in comedy movies, Kevin Hart is the perfect actor to remake a Korean dramedy for Hollywood. Hart will most likely not be leading the cast though, since it is a female-driven dramedy based on "Sunny", one of the highest-grossing movies in Korea of all time. The Hollywood Reporter brought news that Hart's Hartbeat Production will be producing the remake under the title "Bye Bye Bye", which will have Amy Aniobi (HBO's "Insecure") writing the script. "Amy is an incredible writer who has put a fun spin on the classic mother-daughter story that will make you want to laugh and cry," said Hart. "We are so thrilled to work with her, Universal and CJ Entertainment on "Bye Bye Bye". Universal continues to be a fantastic partner, and CJ Entertainment is the premiere media company in South Korea. Plus, they've promised to help me achieve my life-long dream of becoming a K-pop star."
The original award-winning 2011 movie follows a group of Korean 'ajummas' (middle-aged women) who reunite when one of them is dying of cancer. The story alternates between the women's current lives and their high school days back in the '80s. News of a Hollywood remake first broke in 2016. Back then it was reported that Brett Ratner's RatPac Entertainment was set to produce with 2003's "Freaky Friday" writer Heather Hach attached to pen the script. There has been no update on the Hollywood front since but other markets have been busy remaking "Sunny". Just this year, a Vietnamese remake "Go Go Sisters" was released in March and a Japanese remake "Sunny: Tsuyoi Kimochi Tsuyoi Ai" was released in August.
