John Woo picks Lupita Nyong'o to star in "The Killer" remake

Lupita Nyong'o is filling in Chow Yun-fat's shoes in John Woo's "The Killer" remake.

2 May – John Woo is switching things up for his upcoming "The Killer" remake as he has cast an actress to take on the leading role this time.

Deadline reported that Lupita Nyong'o is the frontrunner to star in Woo's remake of his 1989 classic, stepping into the role made famous by Hong Kong action star Chow Yun-fat.

The Academy Award winner is said to play an assassin who puts her own life on the line to save a woman whom she accidentally blinded in her last mission.

This new approach would mark Woo's return to Hollywood since he faded from the scene after his poorly received "Paycheck" starring Ben Affleck in 2003.

Nyong'o, on the other hand, is making a name for herself by starring in record-breaking movies like "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and the recent "Black Panther".

John Woo's classic shot of people pointing guns at each other's faces in "The Killer" has influenced many Hollywood movies today.

The original "The Killer" was highly praised by critics for its unique take on the action genre, thus making Woo a household name among action enthusiasts and has influenced some of Hollywood's biggest movies.
