6 Mar – Actress Merila Zare'i attended the launch of the first ever Iranian Film Festival Malaysia 2018 (IRFF) yesterday at GSC Pavilion to promote her 2017 movie, "Under the Smoky Roof". The Iranian actress came alone without her director Pouran Derakhshandeh who was scheduled to join the event, but unfortunately could not make it due to unforeseen reasons. Zare'i who won Best Actress at the Iranian Fajr International Film Festival for her portrayal of a housewife who has problems communicating with her family in "Under the Smoky Roof", emphasised on her appreciation to represent her movie in Malaysia for the first time.
There are a total of six IRFF movies slated, including "Under the Smoky Roof" which are "The Queen", "Ceasefire 2", "Crazy Castle", "Sweet Taste of Imagination", and "Where Are My Shoes?", and they will all be premiering at selected International Screens at Golden Screen Cinemas. Supported by Cinema Online, the Iranian Film Festival Malaysia 2018 will begin in Kuala Lumpur from 7 March to 11 March and will then head to Penang and Johor, ending on 16 March 2018.
