6 Apr – Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of poaching Indian antelopes, or more commonly known as the blackbucks.

According to Times of India, Jodhpur Sessions Court also fined the actor RS10,000 under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act.

Before this, Salman was accused of killing blackbucks in a village near Jodphur during the filming of "Hum Saath Saath Hain" in 1998.

Also charged were Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, and Neelam Kothari, but the charges against them were dropped.

Salman is set to be incarcerated at Jodhpur Central Jail.

Consequently, the court's decision has suspended some of Salman's upcoming projects including "Race 3", which was originally scheduled for release this Eid al-Fitr.

Additionally, he also has other upcoming projects including "Bharat", "Dabangg 3" and "Kick 2".

This isn't the Bollywood star's first prison sentence, as he was given a similar 5-year sentence back in 2015 for a drunk driving hit-and-run case but he was later acquitted due to lack of evidence.
