9 Sep – After three years of operation, OTT (Over-the-Top) video service VIU has finally launched its own VIU Original drama series.
The three original series, produced in cooperation with Rangkaian Televisyen Media Prima, will be released simultaneously on both NTV7 and VIU from this month onwards.
"Salon", "The Bridge" and "Jibril" are directed by renowned directors and stars talents from Malaysia and Singapore.
Kingsley Warner, General Manager for Malaysia, Vuclip, stated that the collaboration proves that OTT doesn't look to compete with the TV industry, there is a synergy instead between the TV viewers and digital viewers in Malaysia.
"This collaboration will give an advantage to VIU in bringing high quality Malay dramas to its viewers, not only in Malaysia but also in other countries," said Warner at the launch of the three original series in Petaling Jaya recently.
The first drama, "Salon", will begin airing this month, followed by "Jibril" in October and "The Bridge" in November.
"Salon", a dark comedy set against the backdrop of the beauty industry, follows a female vigilante. The Khabir Bhatia-helmed drama stars Julia Farhana, Iman Corinne, Josiah Hogan and Idris Khan.
Meanwhile, "Jibril" is a thriller drama about a lawyer trying to solve a high-profile murder case. Directed by Megat Sharizal, it stars Aeril Zafrel, Lisa Surihani, Tony Eusoff and Sangeeta Krishnasamy.
Last but not least, "The Bridge" is an investigative thriller that revolves around two detectives, one from Malaysia and the other from Singapore, who have to work together to solve a murder case when a body was found exactly halfway between the two countries.
The drama is helmed by two directors, Malaysia's Jason Chong and Singapore's Lee Thean-Jeen, and features a cast from both countries, including Bront Palarae, Rebecca Lim, Cheryl Samad and Gavin Yap.
