Funko Pop! collectible figurines getting a movie adaptation

A Funko Pop! movie sounds like it'll be super cute – just look at these guys!

17 Sep – Following in the (tiny) footsteps of toys like Lego and Playmobil, the collectible figurines of Funko Pop! are getting their own feature film adaptation too.

The news comes from Deadline, who reported that the movie will be made and produced by Warner Animation Group.

Warner Bros has optioned rights to the movie as it has partnered with Funko on licensed collectibles from franchises such as "Batman" and "Harry Potter" for almost two decades now.

While it was not revealed which figurines will make it to the big screen, most likely the highly popular characters from the abovementioned franchises will be part of the movie.

Allison Abbate, Executive VP of Warner Animation Group, was quoted as saying, "Their fresh take on pop culture make these figurines incredibly appealing to fans of all ages," adding that the studio is excited about the adaptation.

The storyline will be handled by Oscar-nominated director and designer Teddy Newton, along with Mark Dindal, a Disney Animation veteran director.

Before the Funko Pop! movie, Warner Animation Group will first release "Scoob" in 2020 and "Tom & Jerry" and "Space Jam 2" in 2021.
