15 Aug – Ever since his breakout role in "Crazy Rich Asians", Henry Golding has been nabbing one major role after another. Though the British-Malaysian has yet to play the titular character of a blockbuster, that's about to change as he is now in talks with Paramount to lead the studio's upcoming "G.I. Joe" spinoff, "Snake Eyes". As the title of the movie states, the 32-year-old is in discussion to play the title role, a ninja warrior by the name of Snake Eyes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The character, who never reveals his face or talks, was first introduced in the 1980s in "G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero" – Hasbro and Marvel Comics' relaunch of the toy line. It was explained in the comics that he is always fully clad in black because his body was burned. Both the 2009 "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" and 2013 "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" included the character, both times played by acrobatic actor Ray Park.
If Golding takes the deal, this will mark his sixth leading role in a movie. His background as a former TV host in Malaysia means being in front of the camera is no problem for him and that showed when he starred in "Crazy Rich Asians", which was quickly followed with another starring role, this time alongside Hollywood leading ladies Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick in "A Simple Favor". This year he will be seen co-starring with Emilia Clarke in "The Last Christmas", which reunites him with his onscreen mother Michelle Yeoh, and also starred in British drama film, "Monsoon", which premiered in competition at the 54th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival last June. He also stars in the Guy Ritchie-directed "The Gentlemen", releasing next year. As for "Snake Eyes", if he takes it on, there is no release date set at the moment. It is only revealed that Robert Schwentke will direct the spinoff from a script by Evan Spiliotopoulos, focusing on the titular character who joins a ninja clan to seek revenge for his father's death.
