New Superman, Green Lantern movies coming from "Star Wars" director

There's a new Superman movie coming, most likely without Henry Cavill as the titular superhero.

25 Jul – Rumours of sci-fi auteur J.J. Abrams working on new versions of Superman and Green Lantern for the big screen have been circulating for a bit now, and were further strengthened during his recent appearance at San Diego Comic-Con.

There, the Cosmic Book News learned that the director recently signed a mega-deal with Warner Bros. so that he can work on the DC movie characters, focusing on the two aforementioned superheroes first.

Reportedly, it was because of Abrams' plans that the studio passed on "Mission Impossible" director Chris McQuarrie and Henry Cavill's pitch for a sequel to 2013's "Man of Steel".

It is also reported that Cavill will not be donning the red cape for Abrams' "Superman", the role will be recast due to the fact that "Superman can't be older than Batman".

As everyone knows by now, the new titular hero for Matt Reeves' "The Batman" is 33-year-old Robert Pattinson. To be fair, Cavill is only three years older, but by the time the filming for the new Superman begins, he could be pushing 40. Meanwhile, Pattinson will begin his role as Batman as early as this year.

While there were previously reports of Cavill hanging up the cape for good, he recently told fans at Comic-Con that he was willing to reprise the role, but only for "Man of Steel 2".

Well, while fans wait for the new movies, and possibly Cavill returning as Superman, they have Abrams' other works to look forward to. The main one this year will be "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker", which he directed, written and produced, slotted for release in cinemas this December.
