Shila Amzah to voice Malay-dubbed version of this iconic Disney princess

Just from the colour of this attire, fans can already tell which Disney Princess Shila Amzah will be voicing.

10 May – Here's one more thing for Shila Amzah to add into her ever-expanding resume: lending her voice to a Disney princess.

The Malaysian singer-songwriter will be voicing the Malay-dubbed version of Princess Jasmine in the upcoming live-action "Aladdin".

She happily announced the news on her Instagram by posting a photo (above) of her dressed in blue, no doubt a nod to the said princess's iconic look in the movies (both animated and live-action).

Tom Batchelor, Vice President of Studio, Live Entertainment and Music (South Asia), revealed in a press statement the reason why the singer is chosen for the voice role: "Princess Jasmine is a character of courage and self-determination, which are qualities that Shila Amzah embodies."

Aside from voicing the character, the 28-year-old will also get the chance to belt out all the Malay version of the movie's official soundtracks, which include the princess's new song "Speechless" ("Raungan Suara").

Naomi Scott, who stars as the live-action Princess Jasmine, will be singing the English version of "Speechless".

The new version of "A Whole New World" ("Dunia Baru"), which is sung in English by Zayn and Zhavia Ward, will be sung in Malay by Shila alongside the winner of this year's "Anugerah Juara Lagu", Hael Hussaini.

"Aladdin" will be the first foreign live-action movie to receive a wide release in local cinemas in both Bahasa Malaysia and English.

Both versions will be available in cinemas from this 23 May.
