Another spinoff is coming to the "Spider-Man" universe.

28 Sep – The web's getting bigger over at Sony's "Spider-Man" universe, as another spinoff has been added to it.

The live-action addition will be female-led as it will focus on Madame Web, according to Collider.

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, screenwriters for "Morbius – an upcoming spinoff from the same aforementioned universe, have been tapped by Sony Pictures to write the Madame Web movie. Sony executive Palak Patel will oversee the project for the studio.

Madame Web, also known as Cassandra Webb, is an elderly clairvoyant character with precognitive abilities. She is also blind and suffers from a chronic neuromuscular disease, requiring her to be connected to a life support system that resembles a spider-web, as designed by her husband Jonathan.

Madame Web, as seen in her previous animated series adaptation.

Created by writer Dennis O'Neil and artist John Romita Jr., she was introduced in the November 1980 issue of "The Amazing Spider-Man #210".

In the comics, Spider-Man once asked her for help finding a kidnapped victim. She is also the grandmother of Charlotte Witter, the fourth Spider-Woman.

Since Madame Web holds the key to a shared multiverse, her introduction in the movie franchise could be a way to unite all the characters from the different movies that are set in Sony's current "Spider-Man" universe.

Madame Web has not been portrayed on the big screen before but she has appeared in video games and a couple of animated series, one of which is the classic 1990s' "Spider-Man: The Animated Series" which featured Stan Lee's wife, Joan B. Lee, as her voice.
