8 Jun – Tony Jaa's name is pretty synonym to martial arts action piece by now, so it's no surprise that the Thai actor is one of the latest cast members to be added to the Nicolas Cage-starrer, "Jiu Jitsu". Jaa is among the five new names announced for the movie, which also include Frank Grillo, Rick Yune, Marie Avgeropoulos and JuJu Chan, as reported by Deadline. In the movie, Jaa will be playing a character named Keung and Grillo will play Harrigan. Both are part of the Jiu Jitsu fighter team led by Cage's Wylie. The story follows the ancient order of Jiu Jitsu fighters who must fight a vicious alien, Brax, every six years in order to protect Earth. The fighters have played by the rules for thousands of years, that is until now.
After Brax defeats war hero Jake Barnes (played by the previously announced Alain Moussi), Wylie's team rescues the injured and amnesiac man, helping him regain his strength so that together they can defeat Brax. It is unknown at the moment what characters Yune, Avgeropoulos and Chan will be playing. Dimitri Logothetis will be directing based on the comic book of the same name that he wrote with Jim McGrath. He will also be producing the movie alongside Martin Barab. While no release date has been set, production on "Jiu Jitsu" is set to begin this 24 June, with most of the filming reportedly taking place in Myanmar.
