New China-owned cinema to replace GSC Pavilion KL

GSC Pavilion KL, which opened to the public in 2007, will soon be closing its doors this February.

7 Feb – Many are left surprised by the sudden announcement posted on Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) social media, which reveals that its Pavilion KL location will cease operations as of 17 February 2020.

Following this, Pavilion KL has issued a statement confirming that a new cinema will take over the soon-to-be-vacant venue.

Dadi Cinema, a China-owned international operator, has been named as the new tenant. It is set to begin operations in the third quarter of 2020.

Currently, there are three China-owned cinemas operating in Malaysia. The first is Bona Cinemas, which opened in 2018 at Resorts World Genting; the second is Emperor Cinemas, which opened at RnF Mall, Johor Bahru, last year; and the third is Womei Cineplex, which also opened last year in Johor Bahru.

As for GSC, it will be opening more new locations, including at Bukit Bintang City Centre in Kuala Lumpur and Sunway Big Box in Johor Bahru.
