21 Aug – In time for Merdeka, local TV and film production company Ace Motion Pictures is planning to re-release the Aziz M. Osman-directed patriotic film, "Leftenan Adnan". It was announced on the Facebook page Leftenan Adnan - Director's Cut that the movie, which premiered in 2000, has been upgraded to a 4K version for its 2020 re-release, in celebration of its 20th anniversary. An upgraded version of the trailer and poster were also posted so that the public can compare for themselves the difference of qualities between the director's cut and high definition (HD).
However, as the producers are aware that not all cinemas will be able to screen the 4K version, they have also produced a lower 2K version. As evidenced by the comments, social media users can't wait to re-watch the movie, and some even express hope of seeing the movie on streaming portal Netflix. "Leftenan Adnan" tells of the titular soldier who fought against the Japanese army during World War II. It starred Hairie Othman, Umie Aida, Rambo Chin, Faizal Hussein, Rusdi Ramli, Shaharuddin Thamby and Wahid Senario. The movie also won Best Sound (Azman Abu Hassan) and the Special Jury Award (General Dato' Seri Md. Hashim Hussein and Aziz M. Osman) at the 45th Asia-Pacific Film Festival in 2000. Aside from that, it also won big at the 15th Malaysia Film Festival when it nabbed the awards for Best Film, Special Jury Award, Best Director and Best Art Direction.
