15 May – While talks of a spinoff focused on Imperator Furiosa have been around since the release of "Mad Max: Fury Road" five years ago, there's not been much update on the standalone movie's production. That is until recently, when IndieWire reported that director George Miller has confirmed to New York Times that he is currently developing the project. Since the movie is set to be a prequel exploring Furiousa's history, Charlize Theron is not expected to make a return despite her stellar portrayal of the war captain in the 2015 movie. Miller said that he contemplated using CGI to de-age the 44-year-old actress for the new spinoff, as Martin Scorsese did with Robert De Niro in "The Irishman", but later decided to cast a younger actress instead. "Despite the valiant attempts on 'The Irishman,' I think there's still an uncanny valley. Everyone is on the verge of solving it, particularly Japanese video-game designers, but there's still a pretty wide valley, I believe," he said. There have been rumours since March that Anya Taylor-Joy ("The New Mutants", "Split") is being eyed to lead the Furiousa prequel.
