23 Jul – Malaysian actress Maya Karin made the nation proud when she nabbed the Best Actress award at the Ramsgate International Film & TV Festival, which took place in Ramsgate, England, from 11 to 14 June. The actress, real name Maya Karin Roelcke, received the accolade for her role in the 2019 "Olympic Dream" directed by Don Hoe. "I'm honoured and thankful to the judges of the Ramsgate International Film & TV Festival for this recognition which I least expected. I guess the character I played gave an impact to both judges and viewers. "Even though there aren't any big names in Olympic Dream, I gave it a shot because I was attracted to the role of Makcik Fatimah, who is a compassionate and brave woman. "I also want to thank the director and production team for giving me the chance to act and space to portray the character in my own way. "With this recognition, I am more inspired to continue giving my best in everything that I work in," she said in a statement released by her management. The Full Billion Entertainment Sdn Bhd-produced film tells of Makcik Fatimah, who encourages the child under her care, Anna Wong, to chase the girl's dream to become a badminton athlete and compete in the Olympics. Previously, the film also won the Best Feature Film award at the Simply Indie Film Fest and Canadian Cinematography Awards (CaCA), as well as Best Family Film at the KinoDUEL International Film Festival. In related news, Maya is all set to return to the silver screen in a re-run of action film "Bulan dan Pria Terhebat", as well as in two new movies called "Kingdom" and "Abang Long Fadil 3".
