22 Jun – It was announced today that cinemas in Malaysia will be allowed to resume operations starting from next month. "Cinemas, theatres and other live event activities are allowed from 1 July in enclosed halls only," stated Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The maximum capacity for these activities will be 250 people or less, subject to the size of the area and they must observe strict SOPs, including wearing face mask, checking temperature and providing hand sanitiser.
Following the announcement, local cinemas including GSC, TGV Cinemas and MBO Cinemas have updated their respective social media with the good news.
The announcement comes less than a week after Sabah's state government last Wednesday announced that it was allowing the cinemas in the Bornean state to resume operations as of 17 June itself. However, its cinemas have yet to reopen to date pending SOP approval from the state government. (Photo source: GSC's Facebook)
