1 May – Yasmin Ahmad's "Sepet" is arguably one of the most iconic Malaysian movies and its stage adaptation is no less beguiling. It's a real treat then for fans of both the movie and musicals as "Sepet the Musical" is set to be streamed on YouTube for free! The free-to-watch streaming of the musical will be made available on Liver & Lung Productions' YouTube channel starting from tonight, 9pm. Tomorrow, 2 May, there will also be a live talkback session at 9pm with the creative team.
Previously, the musical – held in partnership with GMBB, a creative hub in Bukit Bintang – ran for three sold-out weekends in late September. The performance to be made available on YouTube was a live recording of the 21 September 2019 show. Joshua Gui and Badrika Bahadur star respectively as Jason, a 19-year-old Chinese VCD seller, and Orked, a bright Malay schoolgirl who loves John Woo films and everything Takeshi Kaneshiro. Romance blooms between the two Ipoh teens but social and racial pressures slowly surface as obstacles. "Sepet the Musical", with a runtime of 1.5 hours, will be available for free streaming on YouTube from 1 May to 9 May 2020.
