29 Apr – YouTube has announced that it will be hosting a free online film festival throughout May and June 2020. "One of the most unique and inspiring aspects of the world staying home is our ability to come together and experience an event as one, and We Are One: A Global Film Festival is just that," said Robert Kyncl, chief business officer of YouTube, as quoted by CNET.
While the movies to be screened have yet to be revealed, it is known that 20 of the world's largest film festivals will be participating in the online event and each will curate its own lineup. Among the participants are the Tribeca Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival and Venice Film Festival. Organised along with Tribeca, the film festival on YouTube will be streamed without ads and contents include feature films, short films, documentaries and more. Viewers are, however, encouraged make donations to benefit the World Health Organization COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. "We Are One: A Global Film Festival" will stream on YouTube from 29 May to 7 June 2020.
