2 Nov – After much speculations about his departure from FINAS as CEO, it was revealed that Ahmad Idham has been appointed the Secretary of Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The news was announced by Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, at Wisma Putra on 1 November, stating that Idham was appointed due to his extensive experience in the creative industry, including winning international awards at the Chunsa Korean Film Festival in 2018.

Aside from Idham, another actor, Datuk Seri Eizlan Yusof was also made Creative Consultant, with the two to begin work effective immediately.

"Their appointment is in line with the objective of developing Malaysian Cultural Diplomacy under the Malaysian Foreign Policy Framework. It is for the purpose of creating new ways of showcasing national identity and values, as well as displaying the value of cultural diversity and promoting cultural promotion and exchange," said Saifuddin.

He added that in an effort to promote Malaysian Cultural Diplomacy, the Arts & Culture Committee (ARCA) will be established under the Minister's Office to strengthen efforts in positioning Malaysian art as an effective channel in promoting the country's historical and cultural heritage.

"I am confident that Ahmad Idham and Eizlan will be able to carry out their responsibilities with dedication and success," he added.
