1 Oct – "Aladdin" star Mena Massoud recently gave an update on the sequel to the said Disney live-action remake, saying that the project is currently in the works.

The Egyptian-born Canadian actor, who sat down for an interview to promote his new movie, "Lamya's Poem", shared that the second movie is still in its early stages, though assured that it is coming.

"They're working on it. They're trying to make it happen. That's really all I know," he said. "As you know, usually actors are the last piece of the puzzle, so the studio has got a lot to worry about before they start thinking about the actors."

Massoud, also admitted that he is hopeful about returning as Aladdin, and to be reunited with his cast members.

"Obviously, I would hope that all of us come back and Naomi [Scott], Will [Smith] and I all come back and the rest of the cast, Marwan [Kenzari], Navid [Negahban], Nasim [Pedrad], everybody. But right now, as far as I know, they're just working on the script and trying to make it happen," he added.

It is noted that Disney's last update on the said sequel was in February 2020, when it hired writers John Gatins and Andrea Berloff to pen the script.

However, it was also reported that the sequel will not follow the likes of the sequel of the animated version, "The Return of Jafar", which was released in 1994.
