"Battle at Lake Changjin" may be 2021's highest grossing film

13 Oct - Chinese war film, "The Battle at Lake Changjin" continues to soar at the box office, with the film now earning more than USD 633 million three weeks into its release.

The said movie is projected to earn more than USD 830 million, surpassing the Lunar New Year comedy, "Hi, Mom" and becoming the world's highest grossing movie in 2021.

The film, directed by A-list directors Chen Kaige, Tsui Hark and Dante Lam, is considered one of the most expensive Chinese films ever made, with a budget of over USD 200 million.


The Chinese war film stars Wu Jing, Jackson Yee and 70,000 extras

Premiering just in time for the 100th Anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) of China, the movie revolves around the Battle of Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War and stars Wu Jing (of "Wolf Warrior 2") and Jackson Yee (of "Better Days").

On the other hand, the next major Hollywood film to open in China will be "Dune" later this month, followed by "No Time to Die".
