7 May – Following news that Dakota Johnson is set to star in her first modern retelling of Jane Austen's "Persuasion", it was reported that British-Malaysian actor Henry Golding will be joining the cast as well. The actor is revealed to have been cast as Mr. Elliot, which in this case could be William Elliot – an unscrupulous charmer who is also the distant relation and heir presumptive of Anne Elliot's father, Sir Walter. Reportedly, Golding decided to play the role as it gives him the opportunity to play against type, instead of the typical romantic characters that he had previously played in "Crazy Rich Asians" and "Last Christmas".
No news as to who will play the love interest, Frederick Wentworth. "Persuasion" was published posthumously in 1818 following Austen's passing. There are only a few TV and film adaptations of the work, with the last one being the 2007 ITV drama starring Sally Hawkins.
