MBO bids farewell in last Facebook post

12 May – Months after announcing its temporary closure, MBO Cinemas recently updated its official Facebook to say goodbye.

"It's been a while. Signing out now," the theatre chain posted on 10 May, with no other explanation given.

It is noted that MBO's last Facebook update was on 19 February to promote the Hollywood movie, "Mortal Kombat"

Back in October 2020, MBO announced that it will be temporarily closing its cinemas nationwide due to the Movement Control Order that has been in force since the COVID-19 pandemic started.

In March, however, it was announced that the PBB Group Bhd, the owner of Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) has bought over the chain.

The film industry, and in particular theatre chains, have been deeply affected by the pandemic and the MCO, with many of its workers losing their jobs.
